Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of colors, be able to identify primary colors, and recognize how colors can mix to create new colors.

Materials and Prep

For this lesson, you will need:

  • Colorful paper or fabric (red, blue, yellow)
  • Water (optional for mixing)

Before starting, make sure to explain the names of the primary colors and how they are special because they can mix to make other colors!

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that match the primary colors. For example, "Can you find something red?"

  • Color Mixing: Using the colorful papers or fabrics, show how red and blue make purple, blue and yellow make green, and yellow and red make orange. You can pretend to mix them together!

  • Color Art: Have the student create a simple artwork using the primary colors. Encourage them to use their imagination and mix colors on paper or fabric!

Talking Points

  • "Look at this red color! Can you say 'red'? What else do you see that is red?"
  • "If we mix yellow and blue, we get green! Isn’t that fun? Can you find something green?"
  • "When we mix colors, they can change! What happens when we mix red and yellow?"
  • "Colors can be everywhere! What color do you want to use for your art? Let’s be creative!"
