Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and describe different colors and shapes found in everyday objects, enhancing their observational skills and creativity.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful objects (toys, fruits, or household items)
  • Paper and crayons
  • A safe space to explore and play
  • Basic knowledge of colors (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.) and shapes (circle, square, triangle)

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a treasure hunt around the house or yard to find objects of different colors. The student can collect them in a basket and share what they found.

  • Shape Sorting:

Using the colorful objects, the student can sort them into groups based on their shapes. This helps them learn to recognize shapes and categorize items.

  • Colorful Drawing:

Using paper and crayons, the student can draw their favorite colorful objects or create a picture using different shapes. Encourage them to use as many colors as they can!

  • Shape Dance:

Play music and have the student dance while calling out different shapes. When they hear a shape, they must make a shape with their body. This combines movement with learning!

Talking Points

  • "What color is this object? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Can you find something in the house that is the same shape as this?"
  • "Let’s count how many colors we found during our hunt!"
  • "What happens when we mix two colors together? Can you guess?"
