Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of colors, be able to identify primary colors, and create their own colorful artwork.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or colored pencils (red, blue, yellow, green)
- A clean, flat surface for drawing
Before the lesson, ensure the drawing area is clear and that the student has access to all the colors.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This helps them learn to identify colors in their environment.
-
Color Mixing:
Using the primary colors (red, blue, yellow), show the student how to mix them to create new colors. For instance, mix red and blue to make purple. Say, "Look! When we mix red and blue, we get purple!"
-
Colorful Drawing:
Let the student draw anything they like using the crayons or colored pencils. Encourage them to use different colors and say, "What colors are you using? Can you tell me what you are drawing?"
Talking Points
- "What is your favorite color? Why do you like it?"
- "Did you know that red, blue, and yellow are special colors called primary colors?"
- "When we mix colors together, we can make new colors! What happens when you mix yellow and blue?"
- "Look at all the colors you used in your drawing! Can you name them all?"
