Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand how colors mix together, and create a colorful artwork using their own imagination.

Materials and Prep

  • Various colored items (toys, clothes, or objects around the house)
  • Paper (any type is fine)
  • Crayons or markers (if available)
  • Water (to mix colors if desired)
  • Optional: A white plate for mixing colors

Before starting the lesson, gather all colored items around the house. Make sure the student can easily access the paper and crayons or markers.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of different colors. For example, “Can you find something red?” This will help them recognize colors in their environment.

  • Color Mixing Fun: If you have water, show the student how to mix colors using food coloring or by mixing crayons on a white plate. Ask, “What happens when we mix red and blue?” This will introduce them to the concept of color mixing.

  • Art Creation: Let the student draw or color on the paper using their crayons or markers. Encourage them to use as many colors as they can and say, “What colors are you using?” This promotes creativity and color recognition.

Talking Points

  • “Look at all these colors! Can you name this color?”
  • “When we mix these two colors together, what do you think will happen?”
  • “You are doing such a great job! What is your favorite color?”
  • “Wow! Your artwork is so colorful! Can you tell me about what you made?”
