Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe different emotions through fun activities and creative expression. The student will also learn to express their own feelings in a positive way.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- A mirror
- Music for dancing
- A comfortable space for movement
Before the lesson, make sure to create a cozy area where the student can draw and dance freely. Have the music ready to play when it's time to move!
Activities
-
Emotion Drawing: Ask the student to draw faces that show different emotions like happy, sad, angry, and surprised. Talk about what makes them feel each emotion.
-
Mirror Emotions: Use a mirror to make different facial expressions. Encourage the student to imitate the expressions and talk about what they mean.
-
Dance it Out: Play some fun music and encourage the student to dance like they feel different emotions. For example, dance slowly when feeling sad, and jump around when feeling happy!
-
Emotion Charades: Take turns acting out different emotions without using words. The other person guesses the emotion being acted out!
Talking Points
- "Can you show me a happy face? What makes you feel happy?"
- "Look in the mirror! Can you make a sad face? What makes you feel sad?"
- "Let’s dance! How would you dance if you were feeling really excited?"
- "Can you pretend to be angry? What do you think we should do when we feel angry?"
