Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as understand how colors can mix to create new ones. The student will also engage in fun activities that reinforce their learning.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful objects (like toys, clothes, or household items)
  • Paper for drawing or coloring
  • Crayons or markers (if available)
  • A safe space for activities

Before the lesson, ensure you have a variety of colorful items around the house for the student to explore. It's helpful to know the basic colors (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.) and how to mix them to create new colors.

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This will help them learn to identify colors in their environment.

  • Color Mixing:

Using crayons or markers, encourage the student to mix colors by drawing with two different colors next to each other. Ask them what new color they see when they mix them. For example, "What happens when you put blue and yellow together?"

  • Colorful Art:

Let the student create a colorful masterpiece! They can use crayons or markers to draw anything they like, focusing on using different colors. Encourage them to tell you about the colors they used.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "When we mix blue and yellow, what color do we get? Let's find out!"
  • "Look at all these colors! What’s your favorite one?"
  • "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as your drawing?"
