Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the fun concept of names and how they can be used to find things, just like how we use names to call our friends!

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • A small box or container
  • Some toys or items to name (like a teddy bear, ball, etc.)

Before the lesson, gather all the materials and choose a comfortable space to work together. Make sure to have a few toys or items that the student likes to help with naming!

Activities

  • Name the Toy:

Pick a toy from the box and ask the student what its name is. Then, help them write the name on paper and decorate it with crayons!

  • Find the Name:

Hide a few toys around the room. Give clues using their names, and let the student find them! For example, say, "Can you find the teddy bear?"

  • Draw Your Name:

Help the student write their name on paper and then decorate it with drawings of their favorite things!

  • Name Game:

Play a game where you take turns saying names of different toys or animals. Each time someone says a name, they get to act like that toy or animal!

Talking Points

  • "What do we call this toy? Every toy has a special name!"
  • "When we say a name, we can find things! Can you find the toy named 'Teddy'?"
  • "Your name is so special! Let’s write it down together!"
  • "Names help us remember things and people! What is your favorite toy's name?"
