Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of sleep, why it is important, and how it helps our bodies and minds feel better and stronger.

Materials and Prep

No additional materials are needed for this lesson. Just a cozy space where the student can feel comfortable and relaxed. Make sure to have a quiet environment to help focus on the activities.

Activities

  • Story Time: Read a short, fun story about animals going to sleep. Discuss how different animals sleep and what they do before bed.

  • Sleepytime Routine: Create a pretend bedtime routine. Have the student act out brushing their teeth, putting on pajamas, and getting into bed.

  • Sleepy Songs: Sing a calming song together about going to sleep. Use simple melodies and encourage the student to make up their own verses.

  • Dream Drawing: Ask the student to draw what they dream about. Talk about dreams and how they can be fun or silly.

Talking Points

  • "Why do you think we need to sleep? It helps our bodies rest and grow!"
  • "What do you like to do before you go to sleep? It’s fun to have a bedtime routine!"
  • "Can you tell me about a dream you had? Dreams can be like little movies in our heads!"
  • "How do you feel when you wake up after a good night’s sleep? Sleep helps us feel happy and ready for the day!"
