Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper or fabric scraps
- Crayons or markers
- Everyday items in various colors (toys, clothes, etc.)
- A large piece of paper or a cardboard for a color collage
Before the lesson, gather colorful items from around the house and prepare a space where the student can comfortably sit and create. Make sure to have a variety of colors available for activities.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Take a fun scavenger hunt around the house or yard to find items of different colors. Ask the student to name the colors as they find them.
-
Color Collage: Using the colorful paper or fabric scraps, help the student create a collage. Discuss the colors they are using and ask them to name each one.
-
Color Drawing: Provide crayons or markers and let the student draw a picture using at least five different colors. Encourage them to tell you about their drawing.
-
Color Matching Game: Gather everyday items and ask the student to match items of the same color. For example, match a red toy with a red piece of paper.

- "Look at all these colors! Can you name your favorite color?"
- "What happens when we mix red and blue? Do you know what color we get?"
- "Let’s count how many colors we have in our collage! How many can you see?"
