Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of a special file called "passwd" that helps computers know who is using them, just like how we know our friends by their names!

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Stickers (optional)
  • A quiet space to work

Before the lesson, it’s helpful to know that the "passwd" file is like a list of names and special things about each person who uses a computer. We will use our imagination to make our own special list!

Activities

  • Drawing Our Friends: The student can draw pictures of their friends or family members. Each picture will represent a person, just like how the "passwd" file has names of users!

  • Creating a Name List: The student can make a list of their friends' names on a piece of paper. They can decorate the list with crayons and stickers, making it colorful and fun!

  • Role-Playing: The student can pretend to be a computer and a user. They can say their name and what they like to do on the computer, like playing games or drawing!
