Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will learn about the concept of sharing and taking turns through fun activities that encourage cooperation and communication.
Materials and Prep
- Two soft balls (or any similar objects that can be easily tossed)
- A blanket or mat to sit on
- Timer (can use a phone or any timer device)
- Space to play safely (indoors or outdoors)
Before the lesson, ensure that the play area is safe and clear of any obstacles. Familiarize yourself with the activities to guide the student smoothly.
Activities
-
Ball Toss
Stand a few feet apart and take turns tossing the ball to each other. Each time someone catches the ball, they can say something they like about their friend or something fun they did today!
-
Sharing Circle
Sit on the blanket and take turns sharing a toy or a favorite story. Each child can talk about why they like that toy or story, encouraging listening and sharing.
-
Turn-Taking Game
Using the timer, set a short time limit (like 1 minute). One person plays with a toy while the other watches. When the timer goes off, they switch roles. This helps practice patience and waiting for your turn.
Talking Points
- "What do you think it means to share with a friend?"
- "How do we feel when someone shares with us?"
- "Can you show me how to take turns? What do we do when it's your turn?"
- "Why is it fun to play together? What do you like best about playing with friends?"
