Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors, understand basic color mixing, and create their own colorful artwork.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful crayons or markers
  • White paper
  • Water (for mixing colors, if applicable)
  • Small containers or cups (for mixing colors, if applicable)
  • Optional: A color wheel or printed color chart (for reference)

Before the lesson, make sure to gather all materials and set up a comfortable workspace for the student. Familiarize yourself with primary colors: red, blue, and yellow, as well as how to mix them to create secondary colors: green, orange, and purple.

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors and name them. For example, "Can you find something red?"

  • Mixing Colors:

Using water and crayons or markers, show the student how to mix colors. For example, dip a blue crayon in water and then draw on paper to see the effect of the water on the color.

  • Colorful Artwork:

Provide the student with white paper and ask them to create a colorful masterpiece using the crayons or markers. Encourage them to use as many colors as they can!

  • Color Stories:

Ask the student to tell a short story using colors. For example, "Once upon a time, there was a blue bird who flew over a green forest." This encourages creativity and color recognition!

Talking Points

  • "Look at all these colors! What is your favorite color?"
  • "When we mix red and yellow, what color do we get? That's right, orange!"
  • "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as your shirt?"
  • "Let's make a colorful picture together! What colors do you want to use?"
