By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand their names, and identify objects that match those colors in their environment.
Materials and Prep
- No materials are needed for this lesson.
- Be prepared to explore colors in everyday objects around the house.
- Have colorful items in mind to show the student during activities.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house. Ask the student to find items of a specific color, like "Can you find something red?" Celebrate when they find the items!
-
Color Matching Game:
Choose a color and ask the student to find two items that are the same color. For example, "Can you find two blue things?" This helps them recognize colors in different objects.
-
Color Storytime:
Read a short story or make one up that includes lots of colors. Ask the student to point out colors they see in the pictures or in your story.
-
Color Dance Party:
Play music and have a dance party! When the music stops, call out a color, and the student has to freeze and find something that color to hold.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it with me?"
- "Look at this object! Can you find something else that is the same color?"
- "Can you tell me what color you see in this picture?"
- "Let's dance! When I say a color, find something that color and hold it!"
