Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of numbers and counting through fun activities, enhancing their ability to recognize and use numbers in everyday situations.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Small toys or objects for counting (like blocks or stuffed animals)
- Space to move around for activities
- Prepare a number chart with numbers 1-10
Activities
-
Counting Fun:
Gather small toys or objects and have the student count them one by one. Encourage them to say the numbers out loud as they count. You can also ask questions like, "How many are there?" or "Can you show me 3 toys?"
-
Number Drawing:
Using paper and crayons, have the student draw their favorite number. Discuss what that number looks like and encourage them to decorate it with drawings that represent that number (like 3 stars for the number 3).
-
Number Hunt:
Hide numbers around the room (you can draw them on paper). Ask the student to find them and call out the number they found. Celebrate each find together!
-
Jump and Count:
Have the student jump a certain number of times (for example, “Jump 5 times!”). Count out loud together as they jump. This combines movement with counting!
Talking Points
- "Can you count how many toys we have? Let's do it together!"
- "What number did you draw? Can you tell me what that number means?"
- "Great job finding the number! How many did you find? Let's count them!"
- "How many jumps can you do? Let's count together as you jump!"
