Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basics of fitness, including how to move their bodies and why it's important to stay active. They will learn through fun activities and games that make exercise enjoyable!

Materials and Prep

  • Open space (indoors or outdoors) for movement
  • Comfortable clothing for physical activity
  • Music player or a device to play fun music (optional)
  • Water bottle for hydration

Activities

  • Animal Movements: Have the student mimic different animals as they move around. For example, they can hop like a frog, waddle like a penguin, or crawl like a bear. This activity encourages creativity and helps develop motor skills.

  • Dance Party: Play some upbeat music and have a dance party! Encourage the student to dance freely and express themselves through movement. This is a great way to get the heart rate up and have fun at the same time.

  • Obstacle Course: Set up a simple obstacle course using furniture or safe items around the house. The student can crawl under tables, jump over pillows, and balance on a line of tape. This activity promotes coordination and balance.

  • Stretching Time: Teach the student some simple stretches. You can stretch arms up high, touch toes, and twist side to side. Explain that stretching helps our bodies feel good and ready to move!

Talking Points

  • "Why do we move our bodies? Because it helps us stay strong and healthy!"
  • "What is your favorite animal? Let's pretend to move like that animal!"
  • "Dancing is a fun way to exercise! Can you show me your best dance move?"
  • "Stretching is like giving your body a big hug! It helps us feel good!"
