Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand the concept of mixing colors, and identify colors in their surroundings.
Materials and Prep
- No materials are needed for this lesson, just your imagination and observation skills!
- Before the lesson, think of some colors the student already knows and some new colors to introduce.
- Prepare to go on a color hunt around the house or outside to find different colors.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around the house or outdoors to find objects of different colors. Ask the student to point out and name the colors they see.
-
Color Mixing Fun: Using imaginary colors, talk about what happens when two colors mix together. For example, "What happens if we mix blue and yellow? We get green!"
-
Color Storytime: Read a short story or create a story together that includes various colors. Use colorful language to describe the characters and settings.
-
Color Dance: Play music and have the student dance to different colors. When you say a color, they can dance like something that is that color (e.g., "Dance like a red fire truck!").
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something else that is this color?"
- "If we mix red and blue, what do we get? Can you guess?"
- "Look outside! What colors can you see in the flowers or trees?"
- "When you dance like a yellow sun, how do you feel? Let's dance!"
