Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe different shapes and colors in their environment. They will also engage in fun activities that reinforce their understanding of shapes and colors.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Shape cutouts (can be drawn on paper)
- Colorful objects from around the house (toys, books, etc.)
Before the lesson, gather colorful objects and prepare shape cutouts. Make sure the student is in a comfortable space to work on their activities.
Activities
-
Shape Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around the house. Ask the student to find objects that match the shape cutouts you have prepared. For example, "Can you find something that is a circle?"
-
Coloring Fun: Give the student the paper and crayons or markers. Ask them to color in the shape cutouts and use different colors for each shape. Encourage creativity!
-
Shape Sorting: Use the colorful objects collected from around the house. Help the student sort them into groups based on their shapes and colors. For example, "Let's put all the red things in one pile and all the blue things in another!"
Talking Points
- "What shape is this? Can you show me something that looks like this shape?"
- "How many colors can you name? Let's see if we can find them all!"
- "Why do you think this shape is called a triangle? What do you see?"
- "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as your crayon?"
