Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of numbers and counting up to 10, as well as recognize and write the numbers 1 through 10.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Counting objects (like small toys or blocks)
- Number chart (1-10) drawn on a large piece of paper
- Space to move around for counting activities
Before the lesson, make sure to set up a comfortable space with the materials easily accessible. Prepare the number chart to show the student during the lesson.
Activities
-
Counting Objects:
Gather a handful of small toys or blocks. Ask the student to count them out loud as they touch each one. This helps them associate the numbers with physical objects.
-
Number Drawing:
Using crayons or markers, have the student practice writing the numbers 1 through 10 on paper. Encourage them to say the number out loud as they write it.
-
Jumping Numbers:
Place the number chart on the floor. Call out a number and have the student jump to that number on the chart. This combines physical activity with learning!
-
Number Songs:
Sing a fun counting song together, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." This will make counting feel like a fun game!
Talking Points
- "Can you count these toys with me? Let's touch each one!"
- "Look at this number! Can you write it? Great job!"
- "Let's jump to number 3! One, two, three, jump!"
- "Do you remember how many ducks there are in our song? Let's count them together!"
