Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a basic understanding of numbers and how to recognize them through fun activities, fostering their counting skills and number recognition in an engaging way.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Small toys or objects for counting (like blocks or buttons)
  • Optional: A timer (for game activities)

Before the lesson, ensure you have a quiet space for activities and that the student is ready to learn and play!

Activities

  • Counting with Toys:

Gather small toys or objects and have the student count them out loud. Start with 1-10 and encourage them to touch each object as they count.

  • Number Drawing:

Have the student draw numbers 1-10 on paper. They can decorate each number with colors and stickers to make it fun!

  • Number Hunt:

Hide numbers (you can write them on pieces of paper) around the room. Ask the student to find them and bring them back to you, counting them as they go.

  • Number Songs:

Sing songs that include counting, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." Use hand motions to make it interactive!

Talking Points

  • "Can you count how many toys you have? Let's do it together!"
  • "What number is this? Let's say it out loud!"
  • "Look at your drawing! You made the number 3! Can you show me 3 fingers?"
  • "Great job finding the numbers! How many did you find? Let's count them!"
