Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of colors and be able to identify and name at least 5 different colors in their environment.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful crayons or markers
- Plain white paper
- Colorful objects around the house (toys, clothes, etc.)
- Optional: A color wheel (can be drawn on paper)
Before the lesson, make sure to gather colorful objects around the house and have the crayons and paper ready for drawing activities.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house! Look for objects of different colors and name them together. For example, "Can you find something red?"
-
Color Drawing:
Using the crayons or markers, ask the student to draw their favorite things using different colors. Encourage them to tell you the colors they are using as they draw.
-
Color Mixing:
If you have red and yellow crayons, show how mixing them can create orange! Let the student experiment with mixing colors on their paper.
-
Color Songs:
Sing simple songs about colors together. Use familiar tunes and make up lyrics about colors, like "Red, red, what do you see?"
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "Look at all the colors around us! What is your favorite color?"
- "When we mix colors, we can make new colors! What do you think will happen if we mix blue and yellow?"
- "Colors can make us feel different things! What does the color red make you think of?"
