Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of numbers and basic counting through fun and interactive activities. They will also develop their fine motor skills while engaging in hands-on play!

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Small toys or objects (like blocks or stuffed animals)
  • Timer (optional)
  • Space to play and create

Before the lesson, make sure you have a quiet space where the student can focus and play freely. Gather all the materials and think of a few fun counting games to play together!

Activities

  • Counting Treasure Hunt

Hide small toys or objects around the room and have the student find them. As they find each one, encourage them to count out loud. For example, "You found one! How many more can you find?"

  • Colorful Counting Art

Give the student paper and crayons or markers to create a drawing. Ask them to draw a certain number of objects, like "Can you draw 5 stars?" This combines art with counting!

  • Number Dance Party

Play some music and have the student dance. When the music stops, call out a number, and they have to freeze and show that many fingers. For example, "Show me 3 fingers!"

Talking Points

  • "Can you count how many toys you found? Let's count them together!"
  • "How many stars did you draw? Let's count them one by one!"
  • "When the music stops, let's show our fingers! How many are you showing?"
  • "Numbers are fun! They help us count things and know how many we have!"
