Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and understand the concept of colors, recognizing primary colors and mixing them to create new colors through fun and interactive activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper or cardboard (red, blue, yellow)
- Crayons or markers in primary colors
- Water and a clear cup
- Small mixing containers (like bowls or cups)
- Apron or old shirt to protect clothes
Before the lesson, prepare a safe space for mixing colors and ensure the student is wearing something that can get messy. Familiarize yourself with the primary colors: red, blue, and yellow.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that match the primary colors. For example, "Can you find something red?"
-
Color Mixing Fun:
Using the water and the primary colored paper, place the paper in the water and watch how the colors mix. Ask the student to predict what new color will appear.
-
Crayon Creations:
Have the student draw pictures using only the primary colors. Afterward, encourage them to mix the colors to create new ones and use them in their drawings.
-
Color Dance:
Play a fun game where you call out a color, and the student has to dance around the room finding something that matches that color.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "If we mix red and yellow, what do you think we will get? Let’s try it!"
- "Look at all the colors we can make! Isn’t that exciting?"
- "Can you find something blue? Let’s see how many blue things we can find!"
