Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of colors, be able to identify and name basic colors, and enjoy engaging activities that reinforce their learning through play.

Materials and Prep

No additional materials are needed for this lesson. Make sure to have a comfortable space for activities and plenty of light. Prepare to have fun and be creative!

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask your child to find objects of different colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This will help them learn to identify colors in their environment.

  • Color Mixing with Playdough: If you have playdough, you can mix colors together. Ask your child, "What happens when we mix blue and yellow?" This hands-on activity will introduce them to color blending.

  • Color Dance Party: Play music and have a dance party! When the music stops, call out a color and ask your child to freeze in a pose that represents that color. For example, "Freeze like a green tree!" This will make learning colors active and fun!

  • Color Story Time: Choose a favorite storybook and read it together. As you read, ask your child to point out the colors they see on the pages. You can say, "What color is that?" to encourage them to engage with the story.

Talking Points

  • "What color is your shirt? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Look at that toy! What color is it? Let's say it together!"
  • "When we mix blue and yellow, what do we get? Let's find out!"
  • "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as the sky?"
