Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of colors and be able to identify and name at least five different colors in their environment.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful items from around the house (toys, clothes, books)
  • Paper and crayons or markers
  • A clear space for activities

Before the lesson, gather colorful items and ensure the student has a comfortable place to sit and draw. Familiarize yourself with basic color names to help guide the lesson.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a little adventure around the house to find items in different colors. Ask the student to point out and name each color they find.

  • Color Drawing: Give the student paper and crayons or markers. Ask them to draw a picture using their favorite colors and then describe their drawing to you.

  • Color Sorting Game: Create a simple game where the student sorts items by color. For example, they can put all the red items in one pile, blue in another, and so on.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
  • "Look at your drawing! What colors did you use? Why do you like those colors?"
  • "Let’s play a game! Can you find something that is blue? How about something that is yellow?"
  • "Colors are everywhere! Can you name a color you see outside?"
