Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as understand how to mix colors to create new ones. This will help them develop their creativity and observational skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
  • Containers of water
  • Food coloring (if available)
  • Paintbrush or fingers for painting

Before the lesson, make sure to prepare a safe space for activities, especially if using water and paint. Explain to the student that we will be exploring colors and having fun with them!

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors and name them as they go. For example, "Can you find something red?"

  • Color Mixing:

Using the containers of water and food coloring, show the student how to mix two colors to create a new one. For example, mix red and blue to make purple. Let them try it too!

  • Finger Painting:

Using colorful paper, let the student use their fingers to paint with different colors. Encourage them to mix colors and see what new colors they can create!

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Look! When we mix red and blue, we get purple! Isn't that cool?"
  • "How does this color feel? Is it bright or dark?"
  • "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as your painting?"
