Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and identify the basic concepts of shapes and colors, recognizing them in their environment and expressing them through fun activities.

Materials and Prep

  • No special materials are needed for this lesson.
  • Prepare a space for activities where the student can move around freely.
  • Be ready to engage and encourage the student throughout the activities.

Activities

  • Shape Hunt:

Go on a shape hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that match different shapes like circles, squares, and triangles.

  • Color Scavenger Hunt:

Similar to the shape hunt, this time the student will look for items of specific colors. You can call out a color and see how many things they can find!

  • Shape and Color Art:

Using imaginary shapes and colors, ask the student to create a drawing using their favorite shapes and colors. Encourage them to tell a story about their picture.

  • Shape and Color Dance:

Play some music and dance! When the music stops, call out a shape or color, and the student has to freeze in a pose that represents that shape or color.

Talking Points

  • "What shape is this? Can you find something that looks like a circle?"
  • "Look at that square! Can you make a square with your hands?"
  • "What color is your favorite? Can you find something that is that color?"
  • "Let's count how many triangles we can find together!"
  • "Can you draw a picture using only circles? What story does it tell?"
