Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of a "file" and how it can hold information, just like a treasure chest holds toys or treasures. They will also learn that computers have special files that help them work better.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- A small box or container (to represent a file)
- Small toys or items (to represent information inside a file)
Before the lesson, make sure you have a quiet space to work. You should know that we will be talking about how information is stored, like putting toys in a box!
Activities
- Treasure Box Activity:
Use the small box to represent a file. Let the student fill the box with their favorite toys. Explain that just like the box holds toys, a file holds information!
- Drawing Files:
Have the student draw a picture of their favorite toy and then put it inside a paper "file" (folded paper). Talk about how this drawing is like information stored in a file.
- Sorting Game:
Gather different small items and have the student sort them into different boxes. Explain that sorting is like organizing information in files on a computer.
Talking Points
- "What do you think a file is? It's like a treasure chest for information!"
- "When we put things in a box, we are keeping them safe, just like a computer keeps information in files!"
- "Can you think of something special you would keep in a file? Maybe your drawings or toys?"
- "Files help computers remember things, just like you remember where your favorite toys are!"
