Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as identify objects in their environment that match those colors. This will enhance their observational skills and vocabulary.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are required for this lesson. Just a curious mind!

Before the lesson, make sure to have a colorful space where you can explore different colors together. This could be indoors or outdoors, wherever you can find colorful objects.

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a color hunt around your home or yard. Ask the student to find objects of a specific color, like "Can you find something red?" Celebrate each find with excitement!

  • Color Sorting:

Gather a few items of different colors (like toys or household items) and ask the student to help you sort them into piles based on their colors. For example, "Let's put all the blue things here!"

  • Colorful Art:

Use crayons or markers to draw pictures using only one color at a time. After each drawing, discuss what they made and what color they used. Ask questions like, "What do you like about your blue picture?"

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
  • "Look at all these colors! Which one is your favorite? Why?"
  • "When we sort these colors, what do we see? Can you tell me what colors we have?"
  • "Wow! Your drawing is so colorful! What do you want to draw next?"
