By the end of this lesson, the student will have a basic understanding of storytelling, including characters, settings, and simple plots, while developing creativity and language skills.

Materials and Prep

  • No specific materials are required for this lesson.
  • Prepare a comfortable and quiet space for storytelling activities.
  • Be ready to encourage imagination and creativity in your student.

Activities

  • Story Creation: Sit down with your student and create a story together. Start with a character they like, and ask them questions about what the character does and where they go. Encourage them to make up fun adventures!

  • Character Drawing: Ask your student to draw their favorite character from the story you created. Discuss the colors and shapes they used and what makes their character special.

  • Act It Out: Choose a part of the story and act it out together. Use different voices for the characters and make it fun! This will help them understand the story better.

  • Story Time with Toys: Use their toys to tell the story. Let the toys be the characters and have fun moving them around while narrating the story you created.

  • "What do you think our story should be about? Can you tell me a character's name?"
  • "Where does our character live? Is it a big city, a forest, or somewhere else?"
  • "What adventure will our character go on? What happens next?"
  • "Can you show me how your character feels? Happy, sad, or maybe silly?"
  • "What colors will you use to show your character? Why did you choose those colors?"
