Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors, as well as understand the basic concept of mixing colors to create new ones. The student will engage in hands-on activities to explore and express their creativity through colors.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful objects (toys, clothes, etc.) around the house
  • Paper for drawing
  • Crayons or markers (any available colors)
  • Water (for mixing colors if applicable)

Before the lesson, gather colorful objects from around the house to use as examples. Make sure the drawing materials are accessible for the activities.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This will help them recognize colors in their environment.

  • Color Mixing Fun: Using water and any available coloring agents (like food coloring or crayons), help the student mix colors. For example, ask them to mix red and blue to see what new color they can create!

  • Color Drawing: Provide the student with paper and crayons or markers. Encourage them to draw a picture using their favorite colors and explain their artwork. This will foster creativity and color recognition.

  • Color Songs: Sing songs about colors together. You can make up a simple song about colors or sing familiar children's songs that mention colors. This will make learning fun and engaging!

Talking Points

  • "Look at this red toy! Can you say 'red'? What other things can you find that are red?"
  • "When we mix blue and yellow, what color do you think we will get? Let's find out!"
  • "Wow, you used so many colors in your drawing! Can you tell me what each color is?"
  • "Let's sing a song about colors! Can you sing with me? 'Red and yellow, green and blue, all the colors are for you!'"
