Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will learn about the concept of colors, how to identify them, and how to mix primary colors to create new ones. They will be able to recognize different colors in their environment and express their creativity through color mixing activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper (red, blue, yellow)
- Water (for mixing colors)
- Clear cups or containers (for mixing colors)
- Paintbrushes or fingers (for painting)
- Paper towels (for clean-up)
Before starting the lesson, make sure to have a space ready for messy activities. Explain to the student that we will be having fun with colors, and it might get a little messy!
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard! Ask the student to find objects of different colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This will help them identify colors in their environment.
-
Color Mixing Fun: Using the primary colors (red, blue, yellow), let the student mix them in clear cups with water. For example, mix red and blue to see what new color they create. Encourage them to predict what color will come next!
-
Finger Painting: Provide colorful paper and let the student use their fingers to paint. Encourage them to use different colors and mix them to see what new colors they can create. It's all about creativity!
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something else that is this color?"
- "When we mix red and blue, what do you think will happen? Let's find out!"
- "Look at all the pretty colors you made! What is your favorite color?"
- "Colors are everywhere! Can you point to something colorful in the room?"
