Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors, as well as understand where we see colors in our everyday life!

Materials and Prep

  • No special materials are needed for this lesson.
  • Be prepared to explore colors in the environment around you.
  • Think of examples of colors and where they can be found (e.g., in nature, toys, clothes).

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a color hunt around your home or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors and bring them back to you. For example, "Can you find something red?"

  • Color Sorting:

Gather various colored items (toys, clothes, etc.) and help the student sort them into groups by color. Say, "Let's put all the blue things together!"

  • Color Drawing:

Encourage the student to draw a picture using their favorite colors. Ask questions like, "What color is your sky?" to spark their creativity.

  • Color Song:

Sing a fun song about colors together, like "I See Red" or make up your own! This will help reinforce their learning in a joyful way.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say 'red' with me?"
  • "Look around! Can you find something that is the same color as this?"
  • "Colors are everywhere! What color is the grass? Yes, it's green!"
  • "Let's mix colors! What happens when we mix red and yellow? Can you guess?"
