Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as understand how colors can mix to create new ones.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper or cardboard in various colors (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
  • White paper for mixing colors
  • Crayons or markers in various colors
  • Water and a clear container for mixing (optional)

Before the lesson, make sure to gather all the colorful materials and set up a clean workspace where the student can explore and create freely.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard! Ask the student to find objects of different colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This will help them identify colors in their environment.

  • Color Mixing Fun: Use the colorful paper to cut out shapes. Then, take two primary colors (like red and blue) and show how they can mix to make a new color (purple). You can say, "Look! When we mix red and blue, we get purple!"

  • Crayon Creations: Let the student draw a picture using crayons or markers. Encourage them to use as many colors as possible. Ask them, "What colors are you using? Can you name them?"

Talking Points

  • "What is your favorite color? Why do you like it?"
  • "Did you know that we can mix colors? What do you think will happen if we mix yellow and blue?"
  • "Look at this color! Can you say its name? Great job!"
  • "Colors are everywhere! Can you find something blue in the room?"
