Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of counting from 1 to 10 and will be able to identify and count objects in their environment.

Materials and Prep

For this lesson, you will need:

  • Fingers (your own!)
  • Household items (toys, snacks, etc.)
  • A comfortable space to sit and play

Before the lesson, think about some objects around the house that can be counted together, like blocks, crayons, or fruits. This will make the lesson more interactive and fun!

Activities

  • Counting with Fingers: Start by showing your fingers. Count from 1 to 10 together, using each finger to represent a number. This helps the student visualize numbers with their own hands!

  • Object Hunt: Go on a little hunt around the house to find items to count. For example, "Let's find 5 toys!" Count them together as you pick them up.

  • Snack Time Counting: Use snacks like grapes or crackers. Ask the student to count out a certain number of snacks to eat. For example, "Can you get 3 grapes?" It's a tasty way to practice counting!

  • Counting Songs: Sing counting songs together, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." This makes learning to count fun and musical!

Talking Points

  • "Look at my fingers! Let's count them together! One, two, three..."
  • "Can you find 4 toys? Let's count them one by one!"
  • "How many grapes do you want? Let's count them together!"
  • "Singing helps us remember! Let's sing our counting song!"
