Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and identify different colors in their environment, and they will have fun exploring colors through various activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Colored paper (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
  • Crayons or markers in different colors
  • Everyday objects in various colors (toys, fruits, etc.)
  • Blank paper for drawing
  • Space to move around for activities

Before the lesson, gather all materials and ensure a safe area for activities. Familiarize yourself with the colors you will be teaching.

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Take a walk around the house or yard and look for objects of different colors. Ask the student to point out items and name their colors.

  • Color Sorting:

Using the colored paper, have the student sort small objects into piles based on their colors. This can include toys or even snacks!

  • Color Drawing:

Provide the student with blank paper and crayons. Encourage them to draw something using their favorite colors. Ask them to tell you about their drawing.

  • Color Dance:

Play music and have the student dance around. When the music stops, call out a color, and they must find something of that color to hold!

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Look at that! Can you find something else that is the same color?"
  • "What colors do you see in your drawing? Can you name them?"
  • "When the music stops, find something red (or any color) and hold it up high!"
