Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn about the concept of a "file" and how computers store information, using fun activities to explore these ideas.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Small boxes or containers (to represent files)
  • Sticky notes (to label the boxes)

Before the lesson, prepare a small area where the student can work on their activities. Make sure to have enough space for drawing and organizing their "files".

Activities

  • File Box Creation: The student will use small boxes or containers to create their own "files". They can decorate each box with crayons or markers and use sticky notes to label what each box is for (like toys, drawings, or favorite things).

  • Drawing Files: The student will draw pictures of things they want to keep in their "files". For example, they can draw a picture of their favorite toy and explain why it is special to them.

  • File Organization Game: After creating their files, the student can play a game where they sort their drawings into the right boxes. Ask them to think about what goes where and why.

Talking Points

  • "A file is like a special box for keeping important things safe!"
  • "What do you think we should put in our file boxes? Let's think of some fun things!"
  • "When we organize our drawings, we are like computers that keep everything neat and tidy!"
  • "Why do you think it's important to keep things organized? It helps us find them easily!"
