Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basics of how computers talk to each other and what a website is, using fun and simple activities to explore these concepts.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- A computer or tablet (optional for demonstration)
- A comfortable space to sit and learn
Before the lesson, make sure to explain that we will be learning about how computers find each other and how they share information, like how we find our friends!
Activities
-
Drawing a Computer Network:
Have the student draw a picture of a computer network. They can draw computers, lines connecting them, and even little people sending messages. This helps them visualize how computers are connected!
-
Finding Friends Game:
Play a game where the student has to find a "friend" (a toy) in the room by following clues. Explain that just like they follow clues to find their toys, computers follow addresses to find websites.
-
Story Time with Websites:
Read a short story about a computer that goes on an adventure to find a website. Use simple language and fun voices to keep it engaging!
Talking Points
- "Did you know that computers can talk to each other just like we do? They use special names to find each other!"
- "When you want to visit a website, it's like sending a letter to a friend! The computer needs to know where to send it!"
- "Just like you have a home address, every website has a special address too! That's how we can find it!"
- "If you wanted to find a toy in your room, you would look for it, right? Computers do the same thing when they look for websites!"
