Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different shapes, understand their characteristics, and identify them in everyday objects around them.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Small objects from around the house (toys, utensils, etc.)
- Space to move around and play
Before the lesson, gather a variety of small objects that represent different shapes, such as a toy block (cube), a plate (circle), and a book (rectangle). Make sure the student has access to crayons or markers for drawing.
Activities

Shape Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that match specific shapes. For example, "Can you find something that is round?"

Shape Drawing: Provide the student with paper and crayons or markers. Ask them to draw different shapes and color them in. You can say, "Let's draw a big triangle and a small square!"

Shape Sorting: Gather the small objects and sort them by shape. Create a space where the student can place all the circles together, all the squares together, and so on. You can encourage them by saying, "Great job! You found all the squares!"

Shape Dance: Play some fun music and encourage the student to dance like different shapes. For example, "Can you dance like a wiggly line or a big circle?"
