Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will have a fun and engaging understanding of the number 1, including recognizing it, counting with it, and associating it with real-life objects.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials needed, just your imagination!
- Be ready to count and explore things around you.
- Prepare to have fun and be creative!
Activities
-
Counting Game: Go around the house or yard and find one of different objects. For example, find one toy, one book, one flower. Count them together and emphasize the number 1!
-
One Big Drawing: Draw a big picture of something that comes in one. For instance, a big sun or a single tree. Talk about what makes that object special because it is one.
-
One Dance Move: Create a fun dance move that you can do one time. Show the student how to do it and then encourage them to try it out!
-
One Story Time: Read a short story that includes the number one. Ask the student to find the number one in the pictures or text.
Talking Points
- "Look at this! We found one toy! Can you say 'one' with me?"
- "Let’s draw something that is one! What do you think is really special about one?"
- "Can you show me your one dance move? Let's do it together!"
- "In this story, I see one big tree. What else can you find that is one?"
