Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will learn about how computers talk to each other using names and addresses, just like how we use names to call our friends!
Materials and Prep
- No special materials needed!
- Be ready to explain things simply and use fun examples.
Activities
-
Name Game: Play a game where you call out names of different animals or toys. Explain how just like we use names for our toys, computers use names to find each other!
-
Address Adventure: Pretend to send letters to friends. Use a pretend mailbox and write down the names of your toys, explaining that just like they need an address to find their way, computers do too!
-
Computer Friends: Draw pictures of computers and give them silly names. Talk about how each computer needs a name to find the others, just like how we need names to play together!
Talking Points
- "Just like we have names, computers have names too! This helps them find each other."
- "When you call your friend, you say their name. Computers do the same thing!"
- "If I want to send a letter to my toy bear, I need to know where he lives! Computers need to know where to go too!"
- "Isn't it fun to play with our friends? Computers like to play with other computers using their names!"
