Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of names and what they mean, similar to how we use names for our friends and family. They will learn how names can help us find things in the world, just like how we can find our toys by calling their names!

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Small toy items (like animals or cars)
  • A list of names (like names of family members or pets)

Before the lesson, think of some fun names that the student likes. This could be their favorite toys, family members, or even fun made-up names!

Activities

  • Name Drawing: The student will draw their favorite toy and write its name on the paper. This helps them connect names with the things they love!

  • Toy Name Game: Place the toys in a circle and call out their names one by one. The student can pick them up when their name is called. This helps them learn to recognize names!

  • Family Name Match: Use the list of names to match them with pictures of family members or pets. This helps them understand that names belong to specific people or animals.

Talking Points

  • "What is your name? Just like you have a name, every toy has a name too!"
  • "When I say 'teddy bear', who do you think I'm talking about? That's right! It’s your special toy!"
  • "Names help us find things! If I say 'car', can you find the car toy?"
  • "Every person and every toy has a name. Names are like magic words that help us know who or what we are talking about!"
