Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to express their feelings and emotions through different body movements and facial expressions, helping them understand how to communicate without words.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson! Just your body and a fun space to move around.
- Prepare a safe area where the student can move freely without obstacles.
- Be ready to join in on the fun and demonstrate the activities!
Activities
-
Feelings Charades: Take turns acting out different emotions like happy, sad, angry, and surprised. The other person will guess the feeling. Use your face and body to show how you feel!
-
Emotion Dance Party: Play some fun music and dance! When the music stops, call out an emotion, and everyone freezes in a pose that shows that feeling. For example, if you say "happy," jump up with a big smile!
-
Story Time with Expressions: Read a short story together. As you read, pause and ask the student how the characters might feel. Encourage them to show those feelings with their faces and bodies!
-
Mirror, Mirror: Stand in front of each other and take turns being the "mirror." One person makes a face or movement, and the other has to copy it. This helps to show how we can express feelings!
Talking Points
- "Can you show me what a happy face looks like? Great job!"
- "How do you think this character feels? Let's act it out together!"
- "When the music stops, can you freeze and show me your best silly face?"
- "Remember, our body can tell a story too! Let’s use our arms and legs to show how we feel!"
