Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of how computers talk to each other using special names, just like how friends call each other by their names!

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Small toys or objects to represent friends
  • A comfortable space to sit and learn

Before the lesson, make sure to explain that we will be playing with names and how they help us find our friends.

Activities

  • Name Game:

Have the student choose their favorite toy and give it a special name. Then, ask them to introduce their toy to you using the name they chose. This helps them understand how names work!

  • Colorful Connections:

Using colorful paper, the student can draw a big circle for each toy they have. Then, they can connect the circles with lines to show how each toy is a friend and how they are all connected by names.

  • Friendship Parade:

Set up a parade with the toys. As they march, ask the student to call out the names of each toy, just like how computers call out names to find each other!

Talking Points

  • "Just like you have a name, computers have special names too!"
  • "When you want to find your friend, you call their name. Computers do the same to find each other!"
  • "If your toy is named Teddy, you have to call it Teddy to play with it. Computers call their names to connect!"
  • "Names help us know who is who, just like how we know our friends!"
