Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and express the concept of numbers through fun games and activities, enhancing their counting skills and number recognition.

Materials and Prep

  • Fingers for counting
  • Voice for singing and storytelling
  • Imagination for creative play

Before the lesson, make sure to have a comfortable space for movement and play. Encourage the student to be ready to use their voice and body for counting and storytelling.

Activities

  • Counting with Fingers: Start by counting fingers together. Hold up your fingers and encourage the student to do the same. Count from one to ten, then try counting backward!

  • Number Songs: Sing a fun counting song like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." Encourage the student to join in with actions or sounds to make it more engaging.

  • Story Time with Numbers: Create a short story about animals or toys that includes numbers. For example, "Once there were three little bears..." Ask the student to help tell the story and count the animals or toys as they appear.

  • Dance and Count: Play some music and dance around while counting the beats. For each beat, jump or clap your hands. This will help connect movement with numbers!

Talking Points

  • "Can you show me how many fingers you have? Let's count them together!"
  • "What number comes after three? Let's sing a song that helps us remember!"
  • "In our story, how many animals did we see? Let's count them together!"
  • "When we dance, we can count the beats! How many jumps can we do?"
