Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand how to mix primary colors to create new colors, and express their creativity through color exploration.
Materials and Prep
- Water
- Clear cups or containers
- Food coloring or washable paint
- Paper or cardboard for painting
- A towel or cloth for clean-up
Before the lesson, make sure to set up a safe and clean workspace where the child can explore colors freely. Lay down a towel to protect surfaces from spills.
Activities

Color Mixing Experiment: Fill clear cups with water and add different drops of food coloring. Let the child mix the colors with a spoon to see what new colors they can create!
-
Color Painting: Using the mixed colors from the previous activity, encourage the child to paint on paper or cardboard. Discuss the colors they are using and what they like about them.
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard! Ask the child to find objects of different colors and name them as they go.
Talking Points

- "When we mix blue and yellow, what color do we get? Let's find out together!"
- "Wow! You made a new color! What do you want to call it?"
- "Can you find something red in the room? How about something green?"
