Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of colors and be able to identify and name at least five different colors in their environment.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are needed for this lesson, just your imagination and curiosity!
  • Before the lesson, make sure to have a colorful space where the student can explore and observe different colors.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors and name them as they go. For example, "Can you find something red?"

  • Color Sorting: Gather a few items of various colors (toys, clothes, etc.) and ask the student to sort them by color. This will help them recognize and categorize colors.

  • Color Mixing: Use imaginary mixing! Ask the student what happens when you mix two colors. For example, "What happens when you mix red and blue?" Encourage them to think creatively about colors.

  • Color Story Time: Read a short story or make up a story that involves different colors. Ask the student to point out the colors they see in the illustrations or imagine in the story.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it with me?"
  • "Look around! What colors can you see? Let's name them together!"
  • "If we mix yellow and blue, what do we get? Let's pretend to mix them!"
  • "Can you tell me your favorite color? Why do you like it?"
