  • Prepare a comfortable and quiet space for learning.
  • Be ready to encourage and engage the student with enthusiasm!

Activities

  • Number Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around the house or yard to find items that can be counted. For example, find 5 leaves, 3 toys, or 2 books. As you find each item, count them together out loud!

  • Counting Songs: Sing counting songs together, like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." Use hand motions or actions to make it fun and interactive!

  • Number Stories: Make up a simple story that includes numbers. For example, "Once upon a time, there were 3 little pigs who built 1 house." Encourage the child to add their own numbers and characters to the story!

  • Counting with Fingers: Use fingers to represent numbers. Show how to hold up 1 finger for the number 1, 2 fingers for the number 2, and so on up to 10. Encourage the child to count along with you!
