Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as identify objects around them that match those colors. The student will also engage in fun activities that reinforce their understanding of colors.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful objects (like toys, clothes, or household items)
  • Paper and crayons (if available)
  • Space to move around and explore

Before the lesson, make sure to gather a variety of colorful objects that the child can easily recognize. This will help make the lesson interactive and fun!

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a treasure hunt around the house or yard to find objects of specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?"
  • Color Sorting: Gather a few colorful objects and ask the child to sort them by color. This can be done by placing them in different piles or containers.
  • Color Drawing: Using paper and crayons, ask the child to draw their favorite colorful things. Encourage them to use as many colors as they want!
  • Color Dance: Play music and have the child dance while you call out colors. When you say a color, they have to freeze and show something that is that color.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Look around! Can you find something that is blue? Great job!"
  • "Let’s sort these toys by color! Can you help me with the red ones?"
  • "Wow! You made a beautiful picture! What colors did you use?"
