Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand how colors mix to create new colors, and express their creativity through color-related activities.
Materials and Prep
- Basic colors (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple) - can be found in nature or household items.
- Clear water (for mixing colors) - can be found in the kitchen.
- Paper or a flat surface for color mixing and painting.
- Hands for mixing and exploring!
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color scavenger hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find items that match specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?"
-
Color Mixing Fun: Use clear water to mix different colors together. Show the student how to create new colors by mixing primary colors. For example, "What happens when we mix red and blue?"
-
Colorful Art: Encourage the student to create a colorful picture using whatever materials they can find. Ask them to use their favorite colors and explain their choices. For example, "What color did you use here? Why do you like it?"
Talking Points
- "Look around! What colors do you see?"
- "When we mix colors, we can make new ones! What do you think will happen if we mix yellow and blue?"
- "Your artwork is so colorful! What is your favorite color to use?"
- "Colors can make us feel different things. How does the color red make you feel?"
