Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe different colors using everyday objects. The student will also gain confidence in expressing their thoughts about colors through fun activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful objects from around the house (toys, clothes, books, etc.)
- Blank paper or a drawing pad
- Crayons or markers (if available, but not necessary)
Before the lesson, gather a variety of colorful objects that the student can explore. Make sure the space is clear for activities and that the student understands that we will be having fun with colors!
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of specific colors. For example, say, "Can you find something red?" This will help them learn to identify colors in their environment.
-
Color Sorting:
Once you have gathered a few objects, help the student sort them by color. You can say, "Let's put all the blue things in one pile and all the yellow things in another!" This will help them understand categories and colors.
-
Color Drawing:
Give the student some paper and crayons or markers. Encourage them to draw their favorite colored objects. You can prompt them with, "What color is your favorite? Can you draw something that is that color?"
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "Look at all these colors! Which one do you like the most?"
- "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as this?"
- "Great job sorting! What colors do we have here?"
- "Wow, your drawing is amazing! What did you draw?"
